This series of paintings
is dedicated to
Shirley Day-Williams
(1934 - 1996)
for her faith and grace.
In the last 18 months, over 30 predominately
black churches have been damaged or destroyed by fires. These
fires have all taken place in the South and are under investigation,
though some are not considered arson. These violent attacks
whether related or not, raise complicated questions about
the smoldering effects of racial hostility.
